Astarael
It’s the break of dawn, and Astarael has stopped to rest after journeying through the night.
Vivian’s appearance yesterday surprised her. Also concerning was the fact that she could hear the voices on the wind—the ones only Astarael seemed to hear until now. Perhaps she’s right, that they are from the spiritual plane, and maybe that’s why Vivian can hear them too, being dead herself.
She can’t hear Astarael’s thoughts too, right?
Hmm. Concerning.
Astarael also reflects on the events of yesterday evening. She had grown weary of trying to get the horse to ford the frigid streams, and at the encounter of a larger river, she knew it was time to press her luck at the bridge.
It was lucky for her that it was only guarded by two Swans. After brief combat with one, while the other was held by her magic, she chased the free one down. She had meant to kill him, but perhaps it was the fear in his eyes that changed her mind.
She had told the soldier to say he was attacked by bandits, and to let her leave. She tried to impress that she didn’t really want to hurt him. She can only hope she was convincing, and that she can outrun any news they might share of the encounter with her.
As Astarael lies down to get some sleep, she thinks of her friends, and hopes they are doing well in Northgate. She can’t wait to be reunited with them again.
