The Lobster

The river and aboard the Beauty
77 Spring

Earlier
Sav gives Roux a ciphered missive that tells him everything she remembers about Galoring - layout, customs, districts and locations, etc.

Present
Astarael attacks the zombie-swan and kills it. She hears combat on other parts of the ship, but as she leaves to help, she sees a worm creature leave the severed head of the dead swan and make a beeline for Talith. She manages to make it back and kill it with a bolt of lightning, before going to help the rest of the crew against dead Swans.

The serpent attacks, and knocks Sav and Athelia overboard, while Warbler gets eaten. Sav traps the serpent in an impermeable bubble. The ship is cleared of possessed Swans, and then the group goes to contend with the serpent and poor Warbler. A plan is formed. Athelia mesmerizes the serpent so it is still, and armed with a poison, Sav dives into its mouth. She finds only a pesky lobster, and a strange (OOC) voice inspires her to realize it’s Warbler, transformed. She teleports out, holding up the lobster triumphantly, but on the way out forgets to use the poison.

Another serpent appears, almost as though summoned by that mysterious OOC voice.

Ethan's Campfire Synopsis
The monster caught everyone by surprise (except for Ethan); one of the boats was destroyed, two of the heroes were tossed into the waters, and Warbler was swallowed whole. Then undead Swan soldiers began to swim towards them from all sides.

Using their incredible abilities, the heroes managed to destroy each of the worm-infected Swans while Sav held the Snek monster inside an impenetrable wall of force. Astarael and the crew of The Beauty fought valiantly and successfully protected both of their immediate charges… although Talith almost died when Astarael abandoned him for a hot minute but, luckily, he was unconscious so he’ll never know about this betrayal.

The Crew of the Beauty was especially brave: Tarin brandished his masterwork longsword as though it was an extension of his own body, cutting down the Swan scourge with ease; Pelham deflected blow after blow with his newly acquired masterwork breastplate, safely evading the lethal thrusts and parries from the infected Swan. Easter defended himself with a mop and nearly died.

Once the undead raiders were defeated, Sav told the party they had less than ten minutes to attempt a daring scheme she and Ethan had theorized about. The two rushed to complete a poison, hoping to render the Snek unconscious and then cut the worm from its body rather than kill the Snek outright. They managed to complete their work just in time; Sav took the vial and with equal parts madness and bravery prepared herself to become an enticing snack for the Snek.

She and the other heroes made their way back onto the waters surrounding the still trapped giant Snek, ready to grapple with it once Sav’s magic failed and the barrier came down. Ethan took up position in the crows nest. Athelia remained at the ship’s stern.

Once the barrier came down, the heroes jumped into action. Sav successfully managed to fly into the mouth of the creature, avoiding its teeth and burying herself safely in the creature’s mouth. The other heroes used magic to distract the giant monster, holding it still.

Unfortunately, once inside the creature’s mouth, Sav found she was not alone; she shared the space with a pesky lobster who distracted her with friendly pinches. After a voice of inspiration spoke, she realized the small creature was actually Warbler, transformed in an effort to stay safe. In her excitement, she snatched up the crustacean and teleported the two of them safely out of the jaws of the Snek… but forgetting to administer the poison she held in her hand.

The heroes bad luck continued as the voice of inspiration that spoke to Sav also summoned forth another giant Snek. The heroes now face two of the deadly creatures on the river as the crew of the Beauty continue to search the hull of the ship for three hangry little slugs.
