Follow the River
The Beauty
16 Summer
The Beauty sets sail from the Swan Fort Harbor. Skau Vanja’s items are discovered in a chest kept by Deren Lake. Ethan finds Deren’s diary in Vanja’s possession, which reveals that there is a warrant for hold of the Beauty in the southern cities nearer Galoring and that Deren hoped to turn Vanja’s loyalty to Isendel.
Sav asks why Ethan shot Vanja, and he tells a lengthy story of a woman who beat her husband to death in flagrante delicto but immediately regretted it; he took a carefully-calculated shot to remove that possibility for Sav.
The party interrogates Skau Vanja, and after lengthy debate it is decided that she will be exiled and sent on a quest of redemption for her perceived betrayal to discover the fate of Lumotu Musket. Vanja is given her belongings, including those taken from her in Northgate, along with a magic hammer given to her by Roux and maps and supplies from Sav. She speaks privately with Talith and Warbler before leaving the ship and following the river.
Bax, coming to collect the spirit of Imago Weygarde, watches the outcome of this and is sad. He likens Sylas to Ethan and asks Sylas to watch over everyone.
