Introductions are made between the rescued Briarbirds, Carter, Danica, and the rest. Sav finds the Long Winter’s logbook, Kelwin’s journal, which hints at the teleportation circle and a fully-operational power orb for aasimar constructs (e.g. Nurie’te), and various magical items on Kelwin’s body. Three of the Briarbirds start to leave, one is persuaded to stay by Ethan and Astarael and the other two take the dinghy and depart.
The state of the Briarbird rebellion is related over dinner, which also includes a show as Warbler, Sav and Talith create some flowers, birdsong and growing things to try and prove magic is not all harmful. Sav makes an impassioned speech about magic just being another way to manipulate power that she can teach to anyone, which falls a little flat for everyone except Carter.
They end up deciding to join forces with the rescued Briarbirds to at least get back to Galoring, where Huey (who has assumed a somewhat spokesperson/lead position) has some contacts still remaining in the Briarbirds.
