The Tide’s Song and Galoring
33-34 Autumn 218

Carter and Athelia get some sun. (By Jessica Dru)Carter and Athelia get some sun. (By Jessica Dru)Sav scouts the docks and the Cathedral with her Arcane Eye, and learns both the giants and the elite Swans can see invisible things. She then makes her farewells; Warbler gives her a pear seed and tells her she has to bring it back, not plant it somewhere or forget it. She flies off to the shore to visit her mum’s plot in the cemetery and have a mini-breakdown. On her exit, she spies the former theater manager Reis Auldaran and follows him to his very nice home.

On the ship, Warbler asks Athelia to be a godparent to the bonsai trees. The anei’has makes a fuss, breaking out of its pot and rolling on the ground, and then talks to Ringo and echoes one of his memories. He repots it in a bigger pot, Athelia comes to water it and it seems happier.

Ethan recommends to Avarian avenues for supplying the Briarbirds and his concerns about transportation and pacifying the locals. Ethan, Warbler, Avarian and Astarael have a secret meeting about secret tunnels into the Cathedral and the layout of the place. While this happens, Carter and Athelia sun in the garden and speak about their pasts and their futures. Carter isn’t sure exactly how she wants to take things; she’d started her salons because she wanted to exchange ideas and talk to people who knew things. Athelia says she’s never had the luxury to think too far into the future, as she mostly had to think about survival. Perhaps roaming off to see far oceans. She says she can hear others of her people when she sings the Song, but she can also hear her ancestors, so who knows if any are really still alive; still, she’s hopeful.
