Snow Days

Alinge’s Pass
Autumn 74 – 79

The group holes up in the tavern of Alinge’s Pass for four days, waiting for the blizzard to blow over.

Esmund spends the time studying Maigran’s notes, and realizes that the sunstone he’s using to power the Door Jamb shouldn’t have the power to do what it’s doing, unless there’s something fundamental about what the doorways are that he’s got wrong.

The girls get new clothes in the middle of the snow, somehow.

Aureya reads Salouis’ journal and realizes there was a time before mortals existed that only gods did, and that there was something the gods feared. After their departure, humanoids can sometimes express/embody aspects of divinity to such an extent that they can ascend to become an avatar of them.

They Etch-a-Skend a message to Samsel to get her to send the Myrwood folks on to Alinge’s Pass, and depart Alinge’s Pass for the haunted Stone Tower, with Fayne joining their party.

As they approach the tower, they start hearing voices and seeing flashes of images; the images are mostly ghostly vision of boys who look like Esmund, multiple of them. Esmund, Detecting Magic, sees more of those red threads like the time spider wove, hanging in the air converging on the tower. The voices seem to be a variety of voices and names—someone calling “Pyrune, you fool!” another challenging Morn to a duel for the clan, and laughter, and a “Mr. Samuel? Would you say we’re friends?”

Inside the tower, an image of an old blue-skinned man with white hair speaks. “The end is the beginning. The beginning becomes the end, and the time, the end becomes the beginning. Are you intelligent enough to finish what you started?” Then he vanishes.

Clearing vines, they expose some tiles, rearrange it from ESMUND to DESMUN, and finally open up stairs heading downward. A voice says, “Welcome, Magister Desmun.”
