Galoring
Y200 - 207

Her memories of her mother were attenuated, but precious. Beautiful bronze skin, big green eyes, light brown hair. Hugs, and kisses, and laughter when she had energy—though that laughter seemed to fade the later and clearer her memories became. She’d always had a smile for Sophronia, though, even when she was too tired to laugh.

She remembered the big dusty spaces beneath the stage that she always hid in when her mother went to clean the place, and how her mother always loved going there. Sometimes they were even around when rehearsals were going on and got to see the play as it was being worked on; if they were very lucky, they caught the final rehearsals before it opened to the paying public. She remembered her mother whispering along with the players, every line leaping to her lips. Sometimes she asked her mother to repeat the performances when they were home, and she would fall asleep to the sound of Koralia’s monologue from The Reaping, or the famous exchange between Delita and Nemede in And So the Light, underlaid by the steady thrum of her mother’s heartbeat.
