Endergaln

It took longer than Sav would have liked, between trying to source materials that wouldn’t interfere with Nurie’te’s own workings and fitting the work in around her hours at the lab. She got there eventually, though, and Nurie’te’s patience was rewarded with a shining new armature built to enclose him and disguise his nature. Spherical in shape, on the manipulation of a special latch, it would pop open a hatch and expand apart to reveal Nurie’te’s octahedral form nestled within, like a round brass-and-aluminum chrysalis. The only part of him that showed was the power source that also acted as a sensor, depressed slightly from the surface of the sphere. Even that Sav had fitted with a yellow lens, so that the blue glow of the orb was transmuted into a lucent green. He could still float around and use his own powers, but he now melded into the ranks of the automatons of Endergaln.

The reception of him by the rest of the Returned was somewhat anticlimactic; only a handful of the others there even knew Nurie’te to begin with (and Sav wasn’t especially minded to share his true origins with those who didn’t). To those who didn’t know Nurie’te, it was simply another construct that Sav had made, albeit a little more self-willed and independent than Samakhael — which, surprisingly to Sav, included Bax. It was all too easy to forget that he had not accompanied them on the months-long journey down the river to Galoring, when Nurie’te’s power orb had been found and he’d been named. The other two from Aelorean’s Crossing had never spent much time with the aasimar construct, either; that Nurie’te only spoke Celestial didn’t help. Largely, reactions ranged from matter-of-fact to curious to supportive, but not much beyond that.

That was fine. Sav could be excited enough for all of them. Another piece of the old world restored, as it should be.
