Treading Water
The Beauty
59 Spring 218
Athelia holds a funeral for the last of the fishmen. Vanja holds a funeral for Bax’s spirit.
Sav talks to Sylas about his feelings, and they discover neither of them can see things inside the prison box.
Roux asks Sav to remake one of the Swan crossbows into a lutebow, as the one Garbon had made for him is falling apart.
Vivian appears to Sylas, asking him if he can take souls.
Sav, Athelia and Vanja chat about their families, the impossibility of rescuing Danica from Galoring, and whether or not they’d want to be brought back from death (Sav does not, if anyone else has to pay a price). They also devise a cunning plan to turn a profit being ice merchants from Jorung to Galoring.
Roux dreams of the tin mines and finding a glowing blue orb that brought ill fortune to Aelorean’s Crossing, but he can’t understand it when it’s trying to speak to him.
Ethan, Roux and Avarian have a drunken night retelling stories of old. Sav corrals a very drunk Ethan afterward and runs him through a gamut of tests to see what he shows up to (Identify shows nothing, Alarm, Snare and Comprehend Languages all work).
They hear cannon fire ahead, and Warbler scouts ahead to see nothing except sinking ships.
