Suffering Vivian, by Sen SouvannavongSuffering Vivian, by Sen Souvannavong

Season 10

Vivian Elinasti. She was a beautiful, human girl at the age of 15. Exceedingly athletic and a face that her would be suitors always said was “that of an angel”. She lived in a somewhat modest home with her loving parents and her younger brother, a half elf, who was roughly half her age. Though, Vivian’s mother was a half elf and did not share the same blood, she was her mother nonetheless. She and her family were well known as some of the happiest folk in the community. Vivian and her brother were always well behaved and polite, especially with other adults, and her parents were always seen as “lovebirds” who loved their children more than anything. Almost everyone loved Vivian, save for an occasional competitor or two who saw her as a rival to beat in Aelorean’s Crossings’ annual Summer’s End Festival. Vivian could always be seen helping the elderly, feeding horses, or even tending to water damaged roofs around the town. She was a role model to say the least. Though, while she loved bringing joy to others, what she had always yearned for so very deep in her heart, was to become a hero. Vivian wanted to be a hero that saved lives and slayed monsters; to protect the weak and be their light. Unfortunately, that day never came, for one fateful night, the girl mysteriously vanished. The town spent months searching for her, and her parents much longer. Ultimately, it was decided that she must have died- probably at the mercy of a pack of wolves. For many, many nights, Talith could be heard mourning his older sister, his hero.

Talith couldn’t accept that she had died. He knew the truth. Vivian had told him one night that she planned to sneak away for a long time. When she returned to Talith, she would be a full fledged hero. Though, she had gone missing too soon. She had told Talith that she would leave in three nights, but instead, had vanished on that same night. It was for this reason and everyone telling Talith to accept his sister’s death, that he couldn’t shake the feeling deep down that she might actually be dead.

After Aelorean’s Crossing was lost and re-won, the children remained in the ashes of their hometown for a short time. Talith revisited his home to where he was met with unspeakable horrors. There he also found out the absolute truth. Vivian hadn’t run away as she had planned. His sister had died that night all those years ago. Finally, after some time, the boy emerged anew. He carried a new sword, the blade tarnished, but still effective. This new sword was special to the boy. Throughout many stories, heroes would name their weapons and Talith would do the same. He would always keep this sword, Vivian, close at his side.

Season 12 - Inquisition

Vivian would follow her brother around, bound to him as his sword and occasionally, unfortunately, privy to his exploits. When Talith was taken by the Suffering, she accompanied Astarael for a short time, untethered to her brother. When he returned to taunt his former friends, she sacrificed herself to free him. She took his place as the avatar of the Suffering and spoke silken truth-lies to Vanja, playing on her fears and her torments, until she offered a reward at too suspect a cost and Vanja rejected her. Taking her gifts back, she vanished again, telling Talith only to go to the Octurne to find more.
