They retrieve the goods and spend a little time recovering. They investigate the narrow tear nearby that leads to another plane, maybe 50’ wide but thin as a sheet of paper. Kaisi manages to teach Seyfried how to pull out a psychic knife, startling her. They ask about Kaisi’s shadow, and he’s casual about Mohs’ existence (who showed up to him shortly after the chicken’s attack).
Xalati wakes in the middle of the “night” and, seeing Salinger on watch, asks him to tell her some stories about Ixtalan. He obliges.
Aureya confesses to Peach that things keep showing up in her belongings and she’s been trying to reverse-pickpocket them back, and Peach yells at her about keeping secrets, which clues everyone else in on what’s been happening as well.
After returning to Shepherd’s End, they decide to stick close while Esmund creates the Door Jamb, which should take about twenty days. The egg continues to be warm and well-cared-for. Xalati, Yev, Ash and Aureya go to the Temple of the Maiden Thrice to pick up the feral sheep and llamas that have collected there. Seyfried starts a child labor factory turning red velvet kelp into clothing fibers. Kaisi tells Mohs he should be friendlier.
