(Dec 1)
Temporal Weaver
Wilds of Easvolin
Autumn 66 – 67, night
Peach sobs, trying to get people to remember Salinger, but they can’t; Ixtalan has a strange feeling about it but doesn’t remember either. She tells Peach to tell them stories about him so they can help her remember him. Aureya can’t quite believe how perfect he sounds.
Ixtalan teases Ava for being too somber and overthinking things, who protests that at least she’s not as bad as Esmund. Ixtalan opines that sometimes everything is so shit you have to laugh at it.
Kibeth laments to Esmund that no one can see her muscles beneath her armor, then tells him he doesn’t have to bear the burden of the promises Kaisi made for him; he thanks her for the offer but doesn’t respond, really.
Autumn 67
They realize they’re in an enormous, miles-wide portal, with a fuzzy threshold like a paper ripped in half. In the zone are two galleons buried in the ground, covered in barnacles, ice and vines.
Making camp outside of the portal edges, Esmund casts a chronomantic spell on Ixtalan (which makes the air ring like a plucked harp string) and she and Aureya go off to investigate the galleons. They find Zephyrus trapped in a geometric red web in the middle of the air, which rings when Aureya grabs him out with a mage hand. As they flee, Ixtalan sees, for a second, crystalline legs in a web of red lines before it flickers out again.
Esmund finishes his Detect Magic and realizes the portal spans multiple dimensions, dozens or hundreds of miles and years, and may be bigger in the past or smaller in the future, cohabiting with an entire world overlapping theirs.
Then Ixtalan and Aureya come screaming in about the invisible spider, which they all attempt to fight for a bit, entirely unsuccessfully. On realizing it’s attracted to time-magic stuff (first the Alacrity on Ixtalan, then Esmund himself), they escape into a Rope Trick, where Esmund has a breakdown about how Vathedrian was right, it’s him, hi, he’s the problem.
