Lords of the Harvest
Underground Temple
Autumn 73 – 74
The group rests and chats; Aureya finds out a bit more about what Brunnhilde and the Maiden means to Fayne. The next morning Ava tries to create food for the group while in Peach’s Tiny Wanderlust, but it starts twisting and vibrating ominously. Esmund shouts at Peach to drop the Wanderlust.
He says, having figured out some things from the notes, that the White Tower twisted the fabric and matrix of some spells, and thinks the Angel of Doors is attracted to the ringing of the spells that were changed. Ixtalan thinks the White Tower is its own thing, based on having seen it in the Pale Lands and the Space Between even though it fell long after she died. Aureya asks if there was no goddess to meet her in the Pale Lands, to which Ixtalan just shrugs and says no.
In the next room, they find it still flourishing with plants, the dwarven runes being a guide to the care and growing of the stuff. Ava theorizes maybe this was constructed during the dark days of shrouded skies, as it mentions the sun as a strange thing.
The puzzle plaque:
Riddle of the Owl Woman
Eyes that see and ears that hear perhaps too much
Loss felt and dealt, strength carries on but not a crutch
A healer’s touch, and a gardener’s bond, lily held beside
A quiet wish, what’s broken to fix, starlight shines inside
A golden sphere, from where unclear, let it roll
The quiet path, no room for wrath, it takes a toll
After a casting of Plant Growth and Sunlight, which makes the plants grow enormous and the gourds burst into huge ambulatory pumpkins with many eyeballs, the doors at the other end open. There’s no fight, though Ixtalan attempts to incite one by shooting the Pumpkin Kings (which just pings off harmlessly). The friendly pumpkin kings tell them to go on to the next room.
The next room is filled with a layer of water on the floor, a number of destroyed walls like a laser-tag maze, and four glowing crystals positioned through the maze.
Puzzle plaque:
Riddle of the Ishie Ix
Two are one and one are two
The same yet not and who are you?
Drift away, return again
The water calls, and you descend
Breathe in deep, but take no breath
Death is life, and life is death
Those two eyes they are the same
They see you, whom do you blame?
Loss is gain, and gain is loss
What do you keep, what do you toss?
Left behind and far too often
A half is gained and naught forgotten
They experiment for a while and discover the crystals shoot electricity whenever anyone stands in their light.
