They catch up with Albrecht, who distrusts them until they show their fingers and teeth. He offers to lead them to a place that’s safer for a little bit, and they eventually agree, after a little kibitzing.
After trekking for hours, they arrive at the memory of a safe home from a halfling druid’s memories, Glenhollow. He tells them not to light fires and they can eat as many pears from the orchard, but can’t take any with them. Esmund stalks Albrecht and just finds him crafting arrows; they talk, and Albrecht says he doesn’t know how long he’s been there, is looking for something he has to find (but doesn’t remember what it is), and repeats four names: Zira, Tashka, Nysa, and Albrecht.
Salinger tells Peach Alinge’s Pass made him uncomfortable, that someone like him did all of that.
Albrecht and Ixtalan talk; they make arrows together, and she asks if names are important; after he says not for them, she introduces herself and tells him about Korred. He says korreds are creatures known to be liars. He mentions a godlike thing was slain, and another arisen, the Fanged King. She asks what he remembers; a stony beach, castle walls, sand and heat and spice and trade, compatriots and a mentor figure to all of them, Edarra; she asks if that’s what he’s trying to go back to, and he says yes, so she invites him along when they find the way out. It may not be his world, or it could be, but at least it won’t be here.
Samsel shows Esmund a tallship made of pear trees in the orchard, with vines spelling out the name Tide’s Song.
Aureya tells Salinger that Salouis’ journal says they brought Aureya back not to make her a priestess, but to prevent her from becoming something worse. She isn’t sure now if she should return, so she doesn’t have to find out if what Salouis wrote is true. He tells her she’s maybe too nice, and is what she makes herself to be, which she turns back around on him and that he’s been a hero. He blurts out that Salouis’ spear was made to kill demons.
