Days 15-16, Month 5
Tunnels in the Daggered Rise
Talith and Ashen share a watch, and Talith reveals he was dragged down to hell; Ashen says it doesn’t sound like he died. Ashen affirms he wants to return home to Moraeth, because that’s where the Pale Guard are.
Sal and Rae share a watch; Sal asks what she’s looking for, and Rae says she’s just going with the flow, trying to figure out something that might click. She observes everyone else seems to have lost something or someone, and Sal says she’s lucky she hasn’t; Rae says maybe it’ll happen, disturbingly. She observes that since Sal’s made a life for himself here, he probably doesn’t want to return, and he agrees; however, he wants to protect what he has, especially since he’s seen a world break before, and he’s trying to figure out how all of these pieces, all of them running into each other, connect into one story.
Squire and Peach share a watch, and Squire eventually reveals to her that he’s Returned, if not a Dreamer. Even in the towns famous for Returned, like Sal’s home of Kendall’s Forge, don’t seem to have them dreaming in the same way, so maybe the Dreamers are the weird ones. Peach tries to explain the thing with the tears and Esmund and everything, but Squire says he wasn’t following anyway.
Bax is on watch when Sav returns; they apologize for putting too much trust in their Wall of Force, which got him hurt since he knocked them out of the way of Summit’s breath weapon. Sav navel-gazes for a bit and realizes the pattern on their star is in the same time as Bax’s constellation, as is everyone else’s.
Hark’ul dreams of Lena, heading to the tower, who asks about the drum he carries and the symbol that reminds him of his mother.
Day 16!
Three scouting teams are formed: Samsel & Velt, Ashen & Mosrael, and Squire and Bax, all going to find promising routes westward, toward Gwin’s workshop.
Squire and Bax find some tunnels being trod by a very large creature that don’t seem to lead to where they need to go. They come back and report.
Samsel and Velt find a tight passage only Small creatures could get through, but find an entire den full of frost trolls. They come back and report.
Mosrael and Ashen find promising tunnels in the right direction, but it’s interrupted by a 20’ crevasse. They try to come back but get lost, and chat; Mosrael confirms Ashen is from the same time as them, and he offers to give her training, which she is meh about.
