The sky of Jorung is dominated by a winding flow of brilliant green and gold light. It is said that the wild people of Jorung call this aurora borealis The River and within it flows the past, the future, and the souls of the dead — they believe the Octurne to be Yjolrinngr, the Great Longship of the Giants that sails within The River with oars so strong they can row against the flow of fate.
Vanja’s magic stems from the River, and she has learned how to walk it (if not always to control it) to travel swiftly from one location to another.
