Day 51

The Tide’s Song pops back into the Prime Material, where they get barraged by Sendings from Sav. They keep sailing toward the meeting point and send Aloysius to go find her while they investigate the ship, and realize a) some time has passed, and b) Sylas and York got left behind in the Feywild. The kelp herder eggs hatch, and the Feywild plant looks bigger and healthier and more ambulatory than ever.

Sav, Ethan and Warbler go to meet with Reis Auldaran to collect the down payment of 10,000gp out of the 35,000 gp he had embezzled from Adelard Sylas’s payments to support Lusira and Sav. Reis gives 5,000gp and refuses to give more and tells them to get out or his boys will beat them up, but gets handily and embarrassingly beat down. Forced to sign over the theater and his house, he leaves with 80gp and is allowed by Sav to escape. Aloysius finds her then and she Sends to Astarael to hear that they’re back. She tells the other two and goes to meet up with the ship, where she catches them up to date. They decide to meet up with Paloma and Consus’ Briarbird forces on an island a day to the southeast.

Ethan's Campfire Synopsis

The ‘Collector’ and Balfus enter the theater with Sav having infiltrated a short time earlier, remaining unseen. Reis Auldaran has set up a trap, offering a fraction of what was agreed upon and attempting to intimidate the two men who have come to collect.

The ploy does not work - the hired muscle is quickly and easily dispatched by the significantly more experienced adventures without the use of any magic. The most shocking display (and only casualty) came from the firing of Ethan’s hand cannon, its sound thankfully masked by the thunderstorm outside. The remaining goons flee after witnessing the strength of their opponents and the display of a cannon small enough to fit inside someone’s pocket. Reis also attempts to flee but is easily brought down by Balfus.

Sav is able to interrogate the man, asking about his choices - why he had done the things that he had; why had he been so despicable towards Sav and her mother? Reis shows no remorse, only self-pity and a desperate desire to live. His fate is left to Sav to decide. After signing over the deeds to the theater and his nearby home, Reis is offered 100gp (of which he is successfully able to carry only about 80) and allowed to flee.

Sav follows him, watching as the man who in many ways condemned her mother to death limped away through the pouring rain, fleeing Galoring with more of a chance than he likely deserved - more of a chance than he had given to Sav and her mother.

Whether a coincidence or the gods rewarding Sav for showing mercy, a familiar flighted friend returns to her in that moment. Sav immediately makes contact with the ship through Sending and an hour or two later, finds herself aboard the ship where she attempts to understand where the group has been and shares the events of the past grasp and a half.
