In the city, Ethan has a panic attack. Warbler scouts a promising abandoned tunnel and eventually finds a large, abandoned room inside the Cathedral, leading to an abandoned townhouse in the mercantile district on the other end. Sav gives Ethan Reis’s former house, and they update on the state of the Cathedral; the regular Swans have decreased, but the number of elites increased. Sav has developed a new Sending variant which allows long-distance conference calls, which she calls Discourse.
Sav to SylasOn the island, Sylas wakes up and finds out how little time has passed in the real world (15 days for most of the world, 1-2 for the ship’s crew). He finds a note from Sav, and ends up talking to Bax. He says he’s going to tell Danica that Bax still exists, and even sends apologies(!) to the Raven Queen for being disrespectful. Astarael and Talith surprise him with a terrible half-birthday cake.
Sav contacts Astarael with the new spell and they all confer, eventually agreeing to attack on the last day of the Autumn’s Turn Festival. Sav will take as many Briarbirds in the city as she can with her into the Cathedral through the Teleportation Circle, while Astarael will do the same on her end with Briarbirds on the ship, or help with the shipside attack on the city if she can’t get through. They learn Ana, Danica’s mother, put some of her light and the love of Danica’s dads into clay to be reincarnated into Danica. After Ethan asks more about Tyr’s motivations, why she’s hunting aasimar things so assiduously, Astarael says that Tyr believed there were special people and non-special people, and that there was something else Tyr never described, that she learned after her father’s death.
Warbler goes to meet with that Templar he met before, and witnesses a priest telling the congregation that all their suffering has made them Worthy.
