After a summer of training and fortification, Vathedrian proposes to the group that he’ll help them clear out the worst predators and reach the temple, and they help him with tracking down the necromancer he was originally tasked here to find, a magician from a foreign land with blood-red hair who travels with a small priest.
Privately to Ava, he says that he might deputize her friends for the order, but Verdicts are only ever humans; there’s a reason, but he won’t tell her until she’s more experienced.

Aureya gives Xalati a little friendship bracelet that allows her to sense the immediate need of an animal she touches. Seyfried gives Ava a scare, then a beautifully-embroidered bandolier for vials, medical kit equipment, and so on. Kaisi gives Aureya decorative horn-caps with an oil reserve that allows her to light it on fire.
They make preparations and set out for the temple, getting interrupted by a pair of auronachus along the way and capturing one while killing the other. They also find a tear in the air, outlined in bright light, that seems to lead to another location in a field of lowers.
