After splitting up, the diving team hears a piercing, mental tone and feels something focusing balefully on them. The sharks all start swimming toward them, though a majority get distracted as the bait gets dropped by the bait team.
An enormous, iridescently-pastel, red-eyed creature emerges from the shipwreck, throwing Xalati, Kibeth and Peach overboard. Xalati is frozen in memories of the storm and creature that had killed her sister. Aureya, Seyfried and Peach are thrown into the water as the creature tail-swipes the diving team’s boat, shattering it. Kibeth grows large and sinks to the bottom, while Esmund discovers that ice underwater just becomes more ice and doesn’t go very far.
