They come across a humanoid corpse, purple-skinned and halfling-sized, and track marks of similar humanoids running and scorch marks. They warn Jorn and Bog via Etch-a-Skend of the mystery party.
Zephyrus later returns, alarmed and communicating something is wrong. A creature is watching them, taking notes while observing, who looks very much like the dead creature, but with pink hair. They chat a bit, and the creature says to call him Korred, and that a few others have happened by. They sort of come to an agreement to trade cookies for answers. Salinger, scouting in the air, sees two moons in the sky, a twilight sky, and the White Tower on the horizon.
Eventually they come to an agreement to trade 8 cookies in Kibeth’s pouch for guidance back to the Path. Ixtalan cuts in and says they want to go to the Place Between and the White Tower. This sparks off a huge row, with Ixtalan wanting to take the immediate shortcut offered by Korred and Esmund not wanting to go straight to the Tower, given the risk of dying without preparation. Kibeth suggests cutting out the middle step of going to Shepherd’s End and going to the capital city of Lux to find the Memento (which is a decent compromise as nobody is super into it). Aureya is desperately unhappy with this, as it means abandoning her temple sisters to their fate, plus she doesn’t trust this shifty guy they just met.
Eventually, they all verbally agree to ask to go to Lux, and Korred takes them through the woods to a fork in the path. Ixtalan and Kaisi scout ahead; Kaisi is insulted she thinks he wouldn’t do anything to rescue Xalati, and Ixtalan snipes at him for being unreliable. Esmund apologizes to Aureya but says it had to be done, and Aureya, sad but fighting it down, holds his hand and says she’ll follow him anywhere.
