Day 15, Month 5
Deep in the Daggered Rise
Stacks of unconscious young men in a magic tunnel happen. Eventually everyone manages to withdraw in one way or another.
Summit is distracted by a fireworks show, and three figures on a clifftop yell at Salinger (the last one to run) to go, that they can’t defeat him. Sal thinks it sounds like Yev, but old. Talith Dimension Doors up to them, while everyone else collects in tunnels in a different direction.
Mosrael, when confronted, explains her magic only sometimes goes wrong; after getting a promise not to do any more magic unless necessary, she, Squire, Velt and Sav go off to scout the tunnels, to see if they can find a way westward under the surface, and maybe find Talith.
The ones staying behind talk about themselves; Peach talks about Shepherd’s End, Bax entirely avoids the subject of Aelorean’s Crossing being razed. Ashen introduces himself as Grand Knight of the Pale Guard, dedicated to fighting undead, necromancers and the Cursed Wraith Queen Astarael, before going around criticizing the battle performance of the others.
Merrick asks who their leader is and gets silence in reply. He asks about the Dreams, and Peach and Bax describe their experiences and the urge to travel into the mountains, or what their purpose is; they reply, mostly to find the others and figure out what’s going on. Merrick says he’ll help them, but only if the Relicors can be assured to get their share of treasure. Peach volunteers to give them her share, if that’s what they want.
Ashen asks if any of them have encountered a woman with the face of an owl; Peach mentions Ava’s owl mask, but Merrick says Ashen speaks of the Owl Woman, a name he knows, then refuses to elaborate (because the session ended and this thread never got picked up again!!).
Talith meets the three benefactors and pretends to recognize Samsel from Harvey’s Digsmen when she recognizes him; Yev and Gwin introduce themselves to him. Gwin says she had a workshop in the mountain that was conducting research on a fragment of stone, but Summit came down from the mountains and destroyed everything, and she thinks that might be part of why. She’s trying to reach someone. Talith has the same feeling of recognition with the three as he has with the other Dreamers. They decide to try and find a way back to the others underground.
