Cave Deep in the Daggered Rise
Bax chats with Ethan about what happened along the way, and confesses he’s lost and angry, a deep rage that feels fresher, and he doesn’t know who he’s supposed to be. Ethan says he relates on both parts, and thought he could get out of being lost by finding Danica again, but after 12-13 years gave up on that; he thinks the anger might just be the sickness left to all the Aelorean’s Crossing children. Bax teases Ethan that people might think he has a crush on Danica if he keeps being fixated on her, and Ethan breaks it to him that uh, yep. He reassures Bax that he knows Bax even if Bax doesn’t, and that fantasy of torture and revenge is just a fantasy, but not who he would be in actuality.
Bax chats with Peach about armor and gives her his own, as he’s developing other magical methods of armoring himself. He thinks she’s still figuring things out and just lacks confidence, but no worries, he’ll help her figure it out; he has a theory that the person they’re each trying to become is the person they most needed when they were vulnerable, and asks what she’s needed. She says every time she’s tried to do something for someone she’s nearly killed them and maybe she just needs rescuing.
The Relicors gossip about how the Dreamers don’t always seem like madmen, but sometimes… Samsel reveals to them that the White Crown didn’t exist when she was growing up, which astonishes them (even the oldest writings refer to it), and that she was traveling nearby-ish when the White Tower fell to the earth, with Vanja. When it fell, in a panic Vanja send them along the River to Luxian. The Relicors realize Samsel wasn’t joking, and Velt says he believes her, but Merrick warns that there are many who would not take kindly to such claims.
Sav, Ashen and Talith gather around the door to try and solve the riddle on it, and eventually decide to press the runes for Ice, Dark, Fire and Gold, in that order. When Ashen presses Ice (and just Ice), a giant ice golem forms above his head.
