Bucket
The Tide’s Song
32–33 Autumn 218
Carter asks Sylas if anything remains of Adelard Sylas in him, which he takes very poorly and drinks a lot. Sylas rants to Danica that her death wasn’t his fault; she agrees, and he rants further about hating having so many personal intimate memories he doesn’t want from other people, then vomits in her medicine closet.
Sav apologizes to Sylas for blaming him for Holland’s reaction.
Astarael asks if Sav would come with her to Moraeth to depose Lord Vikarn Salendir, and Sav agrees without hesitation, and then hesitates and says, well, after going to the Octurne first, of course.
The result of a confession (by Sen Souvannavong)Ethan finds Danica clearing out the last traces of Sylas’ vomit with incense, and she confesses that she’s always felt their connection, always loved him. He returns the sentiment.
Warbler finds a nest of baby chicks that Aloysius rescued from Holland’s ship, the Sleuth, and is guarding them from Felix. The crew is helpless at taking care of baby birds.
Talith also comes by Sylas and says he doesn’t blame him for his actions.
Carter reveals (learned from Holland’s papers) that Alistair-Lin Isendel is alive and was recently captured and delivered to Tyr, which eliminates the need for them to make a fake puppet Alistair.
They have a funeral for Holland Blackwood, and Carter talks about her own future replacing him.
Sylas and Bax have a fight in Sylas’ head and Bax reads him to filth, which makes him reconsider his behavior.
Sylas recovers some memories from Adelard Sylas and has an uncomfortable realization, which he obliquely tries to bring to Sav. He roundaboutly says that a) she never knew her father, right? b) her mother got regular stipends of money? c) he remembers…
With an ugly flash of realization and a burst of disbelief, she tells him not to tell her her father is the Inquisitor, and he shuts up. Until she sighs and asks which one, to which he tells her it’s his eponym. He was supposed to have a stipend sent to her for her and her mother’s upkeep, which she says is a lie because she never saw such a thing.
