Talith Elinasti, a half elf, lives right in the center of town in a surprisingly rundown home. He has a somewhat square jaw with one pointed ear while the other round. His hair is chestnut, a bit shaggy, and falls just past his ears covering the round one while the pointed one slightly protrudes out. He usually has a positive personality and is generally able to get along with just about anybody with a bit of help from his natural charm. When hanging out with other kids around his age, he has no problem at all being the center of attention, but unfortunately is a bit of a buzzkill when it comes to mischief and usually back at home by his curfew time every day. Talith cares deeply for his parents, Ara and Taron Elinasti, and cares about their reputation as well as his own. As a result of this, he always follows his parents’ rules and does his best to not cause trouble around the town.
His elder sister of ten years his senior, Vivian, vanished abruptly in the night when he was only ten years old. There was a search party organized by his parents for weeks, but to no avail. When the villagers tried to get his parents to accept the truth, that she’d most likely died, they didn’t listen and continued the search on their own for the following year. Talith seemed to resent his sister after her disappearance. From time to time, villagers would hear Talith scream out of anger at night and his mother always had to explain to them that he’s having trouble coping with the loss of his sister. Vivian was always a role model for Talith. She was proud, walked with confidence, and always spoke of protecting others. She was very much a liked individual throughout the town. Though Talith resents his sister, he still wears her necklace with a wooden trinket attached bearing a symbol of protection that she had carved into it. It was a necklace that was never not seen around Vivians neck, but for some reason, the necklace was left in their shared bedroom for Talith to claim.
When away from home and not with friends, Talith is usually somewhere in a tree with his head in the clouds or somewhere in a tree just for the sake of climbing it and contemplating if he’d ever be able to build up the courage to jump from one tree to another close by one. It always sounded fun to him, but to actually do it was a bit daunting. During the rest of his free time, he can be found at Mairwen’s Marvels. He absolutely loves hanging out there and conversing with Mairwen about a variety of topics with his favorite always being how he would one day venture out of this town. This place was always convenient for him since it was almost literally right next to his own home. He could always make his curfew if he spent the end of his day here trading stories with Mairwen whenever she had the time. When she didn’t, he wouldn’t mind conversing with other employees or customers in the place. Over time, he asked if he could work for Mairwen, but she just chuckled and said that it was a woman’s work and gestured over to a girl she was currently mentoring.
Currently, Talith works as a local bartender’s assistant at the Talesfast Inn. The bartender, Boress, took a liking to Talith when he saw how easily he could put on a smile around customers despite whatever gloomy or ill-mannered state they might be in. Not only that, but Talith already seemed to be well disciplined and could usually carry his own weight with the dishes and other responsibilities. The best part about this job however, are the stories that he sometimes hears from overnight travelers as well as foreign faces that he’d never seen before. To him, the Talesfast Inn is like a good book. It’s the best way to experience lands away from the village and escape.
A Little Deeper
Vivian Elinasti. She was a beautiful, human girl at the age of 15. Exceedingly athletic and a face that her would be suitors always said was “that of an angel”. She lived in a somewhat modest home with her loving parents and her younger brother, a half elf, who was roughly half her age. Though, Vivian’s mother was a half elf and did not share the same blood, she was her mother nonetheless. She and her family were well known as some of the happiest folk in the community. Vivian and her brother were always well behaved and polite, especially with other adults, and her parents were always seen as “lovebirds” who loved their children more than anything. Almost everyone loved Vivian, save for an occasional competitor or two who saw her as a rival to beat in Alorean’s Crossings’s annual Summer’s End Festival. Vivian could always be seen helping the elderly, feeding horses, or even tending to water damaged roofs around the town. She was a role model to say the least. Though, while she loved bringing joy to others, what she had always yearned for so very deep in her heart, was to become a hero. Vivian wanted to be a hero that saved lives and slayed monsters; to protect the weak and be their light. Unfortunately, that day never came, for one fateful night, the girl mysteriously vanished. The town spent months searching for her, and her parents much longer. Ultimately, it was decided that she must have died- probably at the mercy of a pack of wolves. For many, many nights, Talith could be heard mourning his older sister, his hero.
Talith couldn’t accept that she had died. He knew the truth. Vivian had told him one night that she planned to sneak away for a long time. When she returned to Talith, she would be a full fledged hero. Though, she had gone missing too soon. She had told Talith that she would leave in three nights, but instead, had vanished on that same night. It was for this reason and everyone telling Talith to accept his sister’s death, that he couldn’t shake the feeling deep down that she might actually be dead.
Seven years had passed and Talith, now an only child, had turned fifteen years of age. The boy was a half elf, however unlike most half elves, Talith featured one full rounded human ear and one pointed elf ear. It was an oddity to say the least. The boy was always so cheerful, though a bit lacking in intelligence. He wanted more than anything to be like his big sister. However, though he was attractive, he never quite drew the same attention that Vivian had. Talith didn’t exactly have a long line of girls nor did he receive requests to help around the town like his sister. Still, Talith was known as the most cheerful kid in town, with the exception of that halfling child, Lumotu. Always greeting the adults with a smile.
Don’t forget to smile
Oh how Talith could brighten the mood, whether it be his charm or endearing lack of intellect. “Hello, Mrs. Tutonson!!” Talith greeted as he passed by Garbon’s mother on the street.
“Hello, Talith! Could you please tell your mother that her order is ready for pick up when you get home?”
“Sure thing, Mrs. Tutonson! I’m actually going to hang out with Garbon at the bridge!”
“Okay be careful! Though, I’m sure Garbon probably just has a book he wants to show you, so I suppose I shouldn’t worry!” She gave a heart warming smile.
I feel sick
Talith’s life was full of pleasantries! Like that time when he was little and Danica brought over sweets for his family! After she left, Talith found himself sitting at the kitchen table eyeing the sweets at the other end, just out of reach.
Okay, Talith! Say ahhhhhh
Or that time he found Bax in hiding seek by smell alone!
We love you so much, Talith
Talith loved visiting Rowen’s mother and listening to her stories!
Please, let me die
But it wasn’t always pleasant. One time, he and Garbon had to climb onto a roof just to escape a couple of dogs. That was when Garbon introduced Talith to his first favorite book!!
Don’t forget to wear your shoes
There was even that time Lumotu visited Talith at work and gave him a trinket that was supposed to have magical powers!
Pain
Talith really enjoyed his work, especially once Ethan started working there!
Fear
Ethan was one of Talith’s best friends, and he could tell Ethan all of his secrets!
Suffer
All of them!
Pain
Any secret Talith had, he told Ethan!
Fear
Every. Last. One.
Suffer
Talith’s days were always filled with joy! Alas, every day must come to an end so that night may put the children to rest. Talith was always home before dark.
Suffer
He was always sure to make his curfew! The last thing he wanted was for his parents to worry!
Suffer
So every evening, the boy would stand in front of his house, put on his hero face, and open the door to greet his loving parents!
SUFFER
FEAR
SUFFER
FEAR
SUFFER
suffer…
Yes, every single day, the cheerful boy smiled. Every single day, the boy wanted to cry for help. Every single day, the boy had to hide his emotions, play his part, and wear the mask of the happy child who loved his parents more than anything. Almost every single night, however, the boy could be himself. He could be the boy who cried. He could be the boy who begged. He could be the boy who called death the friend that kept its distance. And He could be the boy who had night terrors of his sister’s disappearance all the while suffering at that monster infested house.
The day the Painted Swans attacked, the children were forced to flee into the forest. That night, as he lay on his makeshift bedroll, he couldn’t help but think of the pain and suffering the Swans must be causing that very moment. At the same time however, a smile creeped up the corner of his mouth, for the boy now spent his first night away from that house. He was free.
