Vanja in durance (by Kate Quimby)
Pris Note
I feel slightly insane because I swear I remember watching this as a scene, or reading it as a story, and I can find no evidence of either anywhere. So have a summary based on half-remembered, possibly-invented-from-whole-cloth memories!
The Majestic is burned. Ethan tells the others to leave and makes a rescue attempt for Vanja, but finds that the Swans have been warned of his abilities and it is a trap; they are ready with flour dusted about to track him while he’s invisible, and he has no key nor method of reaching Vanja physically, though he attempts to pep talk her into maybe discovering new magical abilities IIRC? He gets away, stabbing Deren Lake in the eye as a souvenir.
Vanja heals Deren, preventing him from dying. For her pains, she is tried and executed as a witch.
