The Aasimar Relic
North of Northgate
1 Winter 217
Ethan, Sav, Vanja, Talith and Astarael meet up and discuss possible plans, sharing the news around of recent activities (including that Vanja’s family is fine). Ethan reveals to the newcomers that the Wolf is his brother and what he’d said about the dangers of the Grand Inquisitor; Sav grows incensed at him not revealing this sooner when they’ve been exposing themselves, and that he’s the weak point now, as the only contact they have with the nobles supposedly funding this rebellion and having a brother who’s one of the highest-ranking Swan soldiers. After some more discussion, they decide to investigate separately.
- Sav and Astarael investigate the Swan headquarters (former seat of the dead House Jorendon) but find little other than some boarded-over pipes that lead into it.
- Ethan discovers that Swans are expecting an important shipment from Jorung in the next few days, having posted more guards on the northern gate
- Talith learns Swans have diverted resources toward the northern mine
- Vanja gains the attention of Private Deren Lake, who says he guards the gate to the headquarters
After reconvening, they decide to travel outside of the city in order to intercept a shipment being sent from the northern mine. While the others hide and provide moral support (well, and a lot of magical support) Ethan is made invisible, warmed, and flies to pick the lock of the chest on the caravan, while the others provide a distraction, playing on the rumors of a yeti around Jorung.
As Astarael and Sav create the fake sounds of a yeti roar, another, deeper roar answers from the mountains. Ethan uses the moment to throw open the chest, cut the straps holding an octahedral white-and-gold shape (undoubtedly an aasimar artifact), and flies off with it.
While they all fly/hoof away as quickly as possible, they catch a glimpse of the real Yeti of Jorung, silhouetted on the mountains.
